On July 3rd, Blue Bloods’ actress Sami Gayle and Victoria’s Secret model Vita Sidorkina hosted the Second Annual Georgica Clean Water Benefit for Voss Foundation, which raised over $14,000 in support of our work providing access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene as a means to enable community-driven development in Sub-Saharan Africa and raising awareness of the ongoing need in the region.
Over 100 guests attended the event, held at Georgica Restaurant and Lounge in Wainscott, East Hampton, New York. Georgica owner Antonio Fuccio generously partnered with Voss Foundation for the second year in a row, following a sold-out success in 2013, which funded the construction of a well in Liberia. Guests enjoyed a delicious three-course dinner by wunderkind celebrity chef Greg Grossman, and live performances by country music phenom American Young and DJ Lee Kalt.
In her remarks, Ms. Gayle eloquently expressed her advocacy of Voss Foundation noting, “One major detail that has drawn me to this issue is that water is frequently a women’s burden. Women can spend up to 8 hours per day carrying up to 40 pounds of water on their backs and heads for their families. Girls are often forbidden from going to school just so they can help meet their family’s water needs. This is unacceptable. With access to clean water, women have a chance to get an education, earn an income, and live productive, fulfilling lives without having to endure the agony of carrying water for hours on end.”
Ms. Sidorkina explained her support of Voss Foundation when she noted, “Most of us don’t even take a second to realize how lucky we are to have access to clean water whenever we want it. Sadly not everyone has the same access we do to water, and that’s why the work of Voss Foundation is so vital and I support their work in providing water to villages throughout Africa.”
Kristy Osmunson Thomas, one half of American Young, also addressed the crowd on her personal connection to the water crisis in Sub-Saharan Africa, as her family is actively and intimately involved in clean water work throughout the sub-continent. Therefore, Voss Foundation’s mission is near and dear to her heart and she was delighted to be able to support us that evening.
During dinner, guests such as TV star Jill Zarin, stylist Robert Verdi, Douglas Elliman CEO Dottie Herman, and designers Jeffrey Rackover and McKenzie Liautaud participated in a raffle featuring an assortment of prizes from sponsors such as Rebecca Minkoff, Guerlain Spa, Bulldog Gin, TRESemmé, Serena & Lily, and Host Committee. Guests received gift bags with various items from ArtHamptons, Uber, PopChips, Serena & Lily, and Lani Vicoli, who also donated a gorgeous necklace for silent auction.
Voss Foundation thanks Sami Gayle, Vita Sidorkina, Kristy and Jon of American Young, Georgica, Kelly Brady, Christine Chapman and the wonderful Brandsway team, Kirsten Hansen, our incredible sponsors, and all of our guests!
