“It felt like traveling without a passport!” -Legendary fashion photographer, Andrea Blanch.
On Monday, July 21st, Voss Foundation gathered our African Bazaar Committee at the Deborah Hughes Inc. offices to curate our 2014 African Bazaar. Celebrity stylist Robert Verdi, Andrea Blanch, designer Bonnie Young, jewelry designer McKenzie Liautaud, lifestyle guru to the stars, Latham Thomas, and Etienne Aigner‘s Creative Director, Daniela Anastasio Bardazzi were among the editors, designers, stylists and taste-makers in our African Bazaar Committee in formation who joined us for cocktails and curation. Enjoying a beautiful summer evening overlooking midtown Manhattan, committee members inspected items from the Bazaar on display at the event, many samples our beneficiaries and partners brought to New York for Nest’s Artisan Summit.
Since Voss Foundation’s staff and Board first started visiting our clean water, sanitation, and hygiene projects across Sub-Saharan Africa, people have asked us to bring back the crafts made by our beneficiary communities. In 2011, we began selling these goods at our fundraising events. In the following years, our African Bazaar has grown exponentially and we now work with a dedicated committee of editors, designers, stylists and taste-makers to curate the collection.
Many of the pieces are made by the very artisans who benefit from our projects; by purchasing the work they are able to do more productively with clean water, our African Bazaar further magnifies our Ripple Effect and mission of using clean water, sanitation, and hygiene as a means to enable community-driven development. See a great write-up in the November 2012 issue of Financial Times’ How to Spend It!
This year, the African Bazaar will be featured at the events we are currently planning in San Francisco, Washington, New York, and Dubai in Fall 2015. You can shop the Voss Foundation African Bazaar items currently in stock at shop.thevossfoundation.org.
