Four hundred people in Zian Town, Liberia gained access to clean water this Fall thanks to a group of young professionals in New York City and Voss Foundation’s partnership with Host Committee. Host Committee, an innovative tech startup that orchestrates private curated events at exclusive venues in New York, helped Voss Foundation’s Junior Committee, started by VOSS Water Brand Manager, Kirsten Hansen, to organize a series of Junior fundraising events in New York. Zian Town is the first clean water well funded by this campaign. See the photos!
The project, the tenth Voss Foundation has funded in Liberia with implementing partner FACE Africa, and the eighth in Rivercess County, included the construction of a hand-dug well fitted with a manual hand pump, training of a water management committee, and a community-wide hygiene sensitization.
Prior to the construction of the hand pump, community members of Zian Town collected their water from a small nearby creek. Although not far from the town, the creek is slowly drying up and the water is contaminated. Residents used creek water for everything from drinking to bathing and washing.
An isolated community in Rivercess County, Zian Town was not likely to receive assistance from the government or other agencies. According to residents, both the distance from the capital of Monrovia and terrible road conditions deterred many NGOs from working in their community. Voss Foundation is proud to sponsor FACE Africa’s “County by County” initiative, the goal of which is to provide complete water coverage to every county in Liberia, starting in Rivercess.
Host Committee and Voss Foundation’s Junior Professionals are currently planning another party to celebrate. Check back for more details or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org! Host Committee has also made it easy for anyone in New York to host their own fundraiser party for Voss Foundation by following this link.
