Two years after Utøya, Lene Maria Bergum‘s parents, Tove and Arnoff, continue to honor their daughter’s memory – and inspire us at Voss Foundation – through their support of clean water projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Thanks to Lene Maria for Rent Vann, five communities in Rivercess County, Liberia now have access to clean water. Kpor Town project implementation is in full swing in Margibi County, Liberia. The first Lene Maria for Rent Vann clean water project was completed in Masikita, Kenya. As the global grassroots community in support of Lene Maria for Rent Vann continues to grow, so does its positive impact.
Grassroots fundraising efforts are regularly organized by community members to support Lene Maria for Rent Vann. Recently, the Bergum family held a farmer’s market where Natalie Bergum and Sarah Moen raised 1,088 NOK (165.21 dollars) from selling waffles, coffee and juice. Soroptimist International of Brasov, Romania donated approximately 10,000 NOK (1,516.35 dollars) to the campaign. As stated on the Lene Maria for Rent Vann Facebook page, “10,000 NOK comes in handy for further projects.” There will also be a concert on 22 Julyin Namsos to commemorate the anniversary of Utøya, and raise awareness about Lene Maria for Rent Vann. A ceremony to honor those who died in Utøya will be held prior to the concert. To see a preview of the video being shown, click here.
