Last week, VOSS Water announced that Matt Kistler of Downingtown, PA is the winner of the One Well At A Time program, earning a trip for two to visit and dedicate a new Voss Foundation water project in Swaziland.
Every year, VOSS Water celebrates its support of Voss Foundation between World Water Day (March 22) and Earth Day (April 22) in their 31 Days to Make a Difference awareness campaign. VOSS Water’s 2015 social media campaign to raise awareness about Voss Foundation included a program, #OneWellAtATime, where entrants had the opportunity to win an adventure for two to visit Swaziland and attend the dedication ceremony of a water, sanitation, and hygiene project in the Ndlinilembi Chiefdom that VOSS Water had funded.
Kistler’s entry, a poem, titled “When Water Came From the Ground,” was judged best based on originality, innovation, vision and passion.
See VOSS Water’s announcement, and Matt’s winning entry, below.
Thanks to VOSS Water’s generosity, we will be able to enhance access to clean water and sanitation facilities for the benefit of approximately 450 people in the Hlobane and Ematfoleni communities by drilling one borehole fitted with a manual hand pump, constructing 67 ventilated improved pit (VIP) latrines, conducting a four-day sanitation and hygiene workshop for community members, and establishing water committees trained in proper usage, management, and maintenance to ensure sustainability.
Since 2012, Voss Foundation, Gone Rural boMake and Rosecraft have implemented 7 water access points and 285 VIP latrines in the KaNdinda and Egebeni Chiefdoms of this small kingdom in southern Africa. Gone Rural boMake (GRb) is a non-profit founded in 2006 by Gone Rural, an organization generating sustainable income for over 770 women in rural areas across Swaziland. GRb assists women and communities through projects that promote education, health and female empowerment. Rosecraft is an artisan workshop that specializes in fair trade products made from mohair, cotton, wool and silk. Founded in 1974, Rosecraft provides employment for 48 rural Swazi women.
Voss Foundation was founded in 2008 by Knut Brundtland, the then-CEO of VOSS Water, as an independent 501(c)(3) public charity, not a corporate foundation. VOSS Water continues to support Voss Foundation, through donations and in-kind support, as our largest single donor.
