Voss Foundation’s Fifth Annual Women Helping Women New York Luncheon and African Bazaar, on November 12th at the Dream Downtown, was attended by 223 guests and is on track to bring in over $100,000, making it our biggest and most successful single Women Helping Women event to date!

Mistress of Ceremonies, Susan Fales-Hill, wowed the crowd with her devotion to Voss Foundation and encouragement to contribute and shop the Bazaar: “I can’t be a doctor without borders, but I can be a shopper without borders!” She introduced the 2014 video produced by Red Stiletto, as well as our Executive Director, Kara Gerson. Kara was followed by Voss Foundation’s first Women Helping Women honoree in 2010, Noella Coursaris Musunka, founder of Georges Malaika Foundation, Voss Foundation’s partner in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Noella reported on the status of our two wells in the DRC and explained the need for the two more for which 100% of the luncheon proceeds are directed as the dedicated 2014 Women Helping Women project, until fully funded.

Celebrity fashion director James Aguiar then took the podium with sponsor and jewelry designer Karen Egren to present the 2014 Women Helping Women co-honorees, Kristy Caylor of Maiyet and Rebecca van Bergen of Nest. Kristy and Rebecca each addressed the importance of empowering women and communities through training for artisans and the provision of access to the most vital, fundamental services like clean water, sanitation and hygiene, through Voss Foundation and Nest’s partnership serving Nest and Maiyet artisans.

Before and after the luncheon program, guests shopped Voss Foundation’s celebrated African Bazaar, this year curated by an African Bazaar Committee of fashion editors, stylists, photographers, and tastemakers; filling their 2014 WHW tote bags designed by Daniela Anastasio Bardazzi, Creative Director of Etienne Aigner. Also available were the beautiful #vossfoundationjewelry bracelets inspired by Africa and created by Norwegian jewelry designers.

The beautiful event decor was provided by sponsor Studio 3; water was donated by VOSS Water and wine by Jackson Family Wines. The luncheon would not have been possible without the generosity of Publicis Groupe, Intimacy, Modern Luxury’s Manhattan Magazine, Mama Glow, and the sponsors already mentioned. And we are deeply grateful to the Board members, Event Chairs, Event Committee, Deborah Hughes Inc., and everyone else who made the day the extraordinary triumph it was!
