Thank you to everyone who came out to support Women Helping Women Boston to make this year’s event so great! Fifty guests gathered at L’Espalier at the Mandarin Oriental on Wednesday, June 20 to enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres and contribute to the international success of Voss Foundation’s Women Helping Women Campaign!
Grammy Award winning recording artist Patti Austin wowed the crowd with a great speech about the mutual benefits of empowering others, explaining that by helping someone else, you grow and change as well — in a positive way. Such is the idea behind Women Helping Women: raising vital funds and awareness to reduce the burden of water for women in Africa opens up new possibilities for them to improve their own lives, in what we call the ripple effect of clean water. Being a part of that process indelibly impacts donors as well; by contributing to meaningful change, you become part of something bigger than yourself. That human connection is something we inherently crave, because it enriches our lives so deeply. Thank you, Patti, for your passion and insight!
Executive Director Kara Gerson also spoke, and gave the floor to Saran Kaba Jones, founder of FACE Africa and our 2011 WHW honoree, who talked about Voss Foundation’s 2011 Women Helping Women project, that brought clean water and sanitation facilities to the Hope Mission School in Paynesville, Liberia.
Guests also enjoyed shopping Voss Foundation’s celebrated African Bazaar, with many beautiful new items handmade in Sub-Saharan Africa. Popular items included these gorgeous ceramic bead and multi-strand necklaces from Kenya. Proceeds of ticket sales event will go to a dedicated 2012 Women Helping Women water project.
Voss Foundation would like to thank Over My Shoulder Foundation for their solidarity, both by connecting Women Helping Women to the broader theme of mentoring and supporting our event. Wine and water were donated thanks to our sponsors, VOSS and Greenvale Vineyards. A big thanks also to L’Espalier and Mandarin Oriental for the fabulous venue, and Wayne E. Chinnock for the stunning photography!
