2018 is the first year Walgreens has joined VOSS Water’s 31 Days to Make a Difference. We recently reached out to them to learn more about the company’s commitment to their community and the environment.

Walgreens Boots Alliance is proud to be a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) leader, setting the pace on some of the most important issues of our day, from healthcare and combatting climate change to valuing diversity and fostering inclusion.

Since Walgreens was founded in 1901, the company and its employees have recognized the connection between strong communities and good business and have a long history of supporting:

  • Access, outreach and education geared toward health
  • National nonprofit organizations focused on the research and treatment of a single disease
  • Civic and community outreach

In addition, the company created the Community Leader position to remain connected to Walgreens retail network and the neighborhoods it serves. More than 1,420 Community Leaders identify and create local events each year. From toy drives, to fundraising walks, to informing neighbors about the importance of protecting themselves from the flu, Walgreens is building upon its long-standing tradition of community pharmacy.

Health & Wellbeing

Walgreens supports the health and wellbeing in the communities where they operate, through drug take back programs, pharmacists specially trained to speak with people about cancer, free HIV testing days, flu shot vouchers and fundraisers for numerous health-related organizations. And Walgreens help provide lifesaving immunizations to remote areas of the globe through their ongoing partnership with the United Nations Foundation.

Walgreens Boots Alliance has the ability to drive large-scale initiatives and positively impact the environment, which is why they aim to protect it and do their part to help ensure it flourishes for future generations. Walgreens three environment goals are related to combatting the urgent threat of climate change. Through their Energy Goal they are committed to doing their part to help mitigate global warming by measuring their direct and indirect emissions, working to reduce energy use in their buildings and stores and promoting the use of energy from sustainable sources. Walgreens Waste and Deforestation Goals bolster their effort to combat climate change as emissions related to solid waste landfills and deforestation contribute to global warming.

Operating sustainably in the marketplace starts with understanding where each product comes from, holding their suppliers accountable for responsible and ethical sourcing and promoting human rights, and consistently engaging with external stakeholders to understand the most material sustainability issues facing today’s markets and industry. Walgreens also works with and supports diverse suppliers. Walgreens Marketplace goals are Transparency and Traceability, Responsible Sourcing and working collaboratively with External Stakeholders.
