Home · Blog · Get Involved : Six simple ways to start a ripple effect this holiday season!

2009 snowflake drop rippleWhat do you wish for this year? Every year, at Voss Foundation, we wish that more people in Sub-Saharan Africa had access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to enable them to improve their own lives – and that’s what we have been working for since 2008.

But we can’t do it without you.

This holiday season, there are more ways than ever to make your presents meaningful: each individual gift can create a ripple effect of change for a community. You can give or receive beautiful #vossfoundationjewelry, set a gorgeous and ethical table with place mats and coasters made in Swaziland from our African Bazaar, throw a fabulous holiday party, or make a contribution of any size. Show your family and friends just how much you really care with one of the ideas we detail below, or contact us with a new one we haven’t thought of before!

No donation is too small – you cannot fill a bucket without every drop. As we say, “It starts with drop – it starts with you!”

1. Gift #vossfoundation jewelry:_MG_3555b

A beautiful way to show your support: Norwegian and American jewelry designers alike have been inspired by Voss Foundation and our work providing access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene as a means to enable community development and raising awareness of the ongoing need in the region. Camilla Prytz, Trine Ditlevsen, and Tanya Ross, in Oslo, and Karen Egren in New York have each designed beautiful and unique pieces of jewelry to raise funds for and awareness of Voss Foundation.

Go to http://www.vossfoundation.org/shop-jewelry-to-support-voss-foundation/ for more information.

Camilla Prytz, Trine Ditlevsen, and Tanya Ross jewelry can be purchased through http://bit.ly/VFjewels, with 100% of proceeds going to Voss Foundation.

Karen Egren jewelry can be purchased through http://www.karenegren.com/store/voss-foundation with 20% of sales going to Voss Foundation.

2. Throw a holiday party that gives back:

Host a party where you request donations instead of gifts, or suggest that your dinner guests “pay” for their meal with a donation. Then, you can send checks or make a credit card donation through our website. If you send us the names of all of your donors, we will send them each a thank-you letter!

New York-based supporters can work with the Host Committee to created a bespoke event at the city’s most exclusive hot spots, to benefit Voss Foundation. Click here to get planning.

3. Create your own personal giving campaign:

Instead of sending Santa a long list of things that you don’t need, create your own holiday miracle by asking for something that could change the lives of hundreds or thousands of people in Sub-Saharan Africa for good.

In 2013, Casey Eltringham’s well opened in Jay Town, Liberia, as the result of her fundraising efforts on her personal giving page. Casey explained “I have always been aware of helping others…[but it] was not until World Water Day 2012 that I decided that I can really make a difference in the lives of hundreds…”

Katie Karp says “There are so many wonderful charities and fundraisers to help diseases, provide food, clothes, shoes, shelter, and so on, that I support – but before we tackle those issues, we must make sure people have access to clean water.” She has been fundraising through her personal giving page since 2013.

Contact us at info@thevossfoundation.org today and we’ll send you the Voss Foundation Personal Giving Page Questionnaire!

AFBZ_2014_image_034. Shop our African Bazaar:

Beautiful, ethical, exotic: Since Voss Foundation’s staff and Board first started visiting our clean water, sanitation, and hygiene projects across Sub-Saharan Africa, people have asked us to bring back the crafts made by our beneficiary communities. In 2011, we began selling these goods at our fundraising events. In the following years, our African Bazaar has grown exponentially and we now work with a dedicated committee of editors, designers, stylists and taste-makers to curate the collection.

Many of the pieces are made by the very artisans who benefit from our projects; by purchasing the work they are able to do more productively with clean water, our African Bazaar further magnifies our Ripple Effect and mission of using clean water, sanitation, and hygiene as a means to enable community-driven development. See a great write-up in the November 2012 issue of Financial Times’ How To Spend It!

You can shop Voss Foundation’s African Bazaar online at shop.thevossfoundation.org.

5. Make a donation:

Give a gift that truly gives back – donate to Voss Foundation through the Donate button on our website, or by sending a check. Please let us know if the gift is in honor of anyone, so we can send you a card to give them to commemorate the contribution in their name (or we can send it them directly ourselves – just let us know!).

6. Come up with your own idea:

We’re sure you have ideas we’ve never even thought of! Email us at info@thevossfoundation.org with your innovative concepts of how to give back this holiday season and we’ll work with you to make them happen!
