Following a hugely successful 2012 luncheon at the Ritz-Carlton, Voss Foundation Board member Charlot Malin and generous supporter Suzy Kellems Dominik invited guests to an intimate cocktail reception at the Of Wit and Will ballroom on October 17th. The party celebrated Voss Foundation’s 2013 Women Helping Women honoree Maya Haile Samuelsson, and showcased stunning photographs by Braden Summers of Voss Foundation’s work in Liberia.
Attendees enjoyed a menu designed by our honoree’s husband, award-winning chef Marcus Samuelsson, executed expertly by Dean Rona and Patina Restaurant Group, complete with dessert donated by Theo Chocolate, made from organic and fair-trade chocolate from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (where Voss Foundation has funded two clean water projects!). Drinks were generously provided by Prescott Ashe Estate Winery and VOSS Water, of course!
After impassioned remarks from Suzy, our Executive Director Kara Gerson, Charlot, and Maya, donors scrambled to sign up to donate in amounts equivalent to line items from the budget for Voss Foundation’s 2013 Women Helping Women clean water project in Swaziland, building two handpump wells and 45 latrines in Egebeni.
The next day, Suzy and Of Wit and Will hosted an African Bazaar pop-up shop downstairs in the art garage. Dedicated Voss Foundation supporters and passers-by alike stopped in to shop the curated selection of goods from regions where we work, with 100% of proceeds benefiting the foundation. Shoppers received a Bonnie Young-designed tote bag and a gift certificate from Benefit Cosmetics. Visitors were also invited to draw their feelings about clean water on the chalkboard walls.
By the time Voss Foundation’s New York staff had packed up, we had raised enough to fully fund Voss Foundation’s 2013 Women Helping Women clean water project, in yet another outstanding year of events in San Francisco.
