Voss Foundation was blown away by the overwhelming response Women Helping Women received in our West Coast debut this year! Women Helping Women San Francisco was a sold-out event at over 120 guests, and the enthusiasm and support in the room were undeniable! We would like to thank our sponsors and committee members once again for making this such a fabulous event!
Guests gathered at the Ritz-Carlton for an hour of cocktails and shopping before the luncheon program began. Event Chair Charlot Malin opened with a moving speech about how she learned of the water crisis in Sub-Saharan African and was called to action. Guests also enjoyed the premiere of our 2012 video, Voss Foundation: A Commitment to Excellence. Executive Director Kara Gerson spoke to guests of Voss Foundation’s impressive resume of successful clean water projects. She introduced Saran Kaba Jones, founder of FACE Africa and our 2011 WHW honoree, who wowed the crowd talking about Voss Foundation’s 2011 Women Helping Women project, which brought clean water and sanitation facilities to the Hope Mission School in Paynesville, Liberia.
All proceeds raised in San Francisco will go directly to the dedicated 2012 Women Helping Women clean water project in Swaziland, until it is fully funded. Read more about our first project in Swaziland here!
The Voss Foundation African Bazaar was a big hit as usual, as guests eagerly snapped up many beautiful new items handmade in Sub-Saharan Africa. Popular items included brightly patterned stuffed batik elephants from Swaziland and gorgeous one-of-a-kind necklaces from Kenya and Mali.
